Hello Everyone,
I`m not much good at this sort of thing, so I hope you will bear with me. I have only just found your site and think it is excellent, though the registration could be a bit easy er for us older folk, not to worry`m here now, anyway I hope that someone out there can help me get a good nights sleep, I have been trying to remember the name of a pub that was next door to the Golden Cross and Fishguard in Hayes Bridge Rd , almost opposite the Salutation I have looked in some of the Old Cardiff books and bought Brian Lee`s book of old Cardiff pubs, which by the way is fantastic, but still no luck, so if anyone can help or point me in the right direction to find out, I would be very grateful.
                                                   Many Thanks

Hey there!  Thanks for registering!  Sorry if the process is a bit complex - afraid I don't have the technical knowhow to introduce a more user friendly forum at present.  But I am working on it!

As for an answer to your question, I have spoken to a few people and they recall two pubs/clubs in the near vicinity.
'The Greyhound Public House' and 'The Moon Club' - both of which were on, or very close to Hayes Bridge Road.

They were quite derelict by the late 60's, early 70's and were probably demolished by the late 70's.

I hope this is of use to you.

All the best,

Matthew

Hi Mathew,
Thanks for the reply but sadly it`s not what I am looking for, the pub I am trying to remember the name of was to the right of the Fishguard, as you look at it. Some say I dreamt it but I am sure it was there. But thanks again anyway.

                                                              Cheers Shadwell

Hi there - the only other thing I can think of at the moment is checking the street census for the duration the building would have been in situ.  If you can give an accurate timeframe (e.g. a decade) then it should be possible to check the census for that decade for businesses registered.  Have you considered contacting companies house and requesting access to historical records?

A few more ideas to help you in your search.

All the best,

Matthew

Hi Shadwell - I've been able to find a photo of the Fishguard Arms and to the right is a building numbered '285'.  This must be the building you are referring to!  How tantalizingly close!
The image was found here> http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?s=445adaaf80a5f6df74ad0c67708023a9&t=521143&page=5

I've attached the image, and have also included a Google Street Map link to how the street looks today.
