INSPIRATIONThis site aims to be an educational tool, aimed at those who seek information about how important historical events have shaped the town of Cardiff, and helped it to develop into the bustling, classy, media and tourist friendly City it is today. The site also provides little known facts and figures, and reflects upon the lives of people from, or who have an personal connection with Cardiff - these people are affectionately referred to (or self proclaimed) as 'Cardiffians'. The highlight of this site is the large selection of images of old and new Cardiff, that I have collected over the past 15 years. I have lived in Cardiff all my life, and like the author Peter Finch, I don't view the City through rose-tinted glasses. However; I love Cardiff all all the same. Hence my desire to share these amazing images and information - this is why I created this site. Cardiffians.co.uk has slowly evolved over the past 5 years, and as my knowledge of web design expands, so does the site. I know that progress is a necessity, but it's a loss to everyone that so many buildings and streets of long ago have been demolished and cleared away, with hardly any thought about the important historical and social qualities being lost in the process. Now everyone can have the opportunity to look upon Cardiff of old, to see just much Europe's youngest Capital has changed in such a short space of time. Even as the City Centre is currently undergoing it's biggest commercial re-development, it is still easy to see (and feel) that Cardiff retains a lot of character that other modern cities often lack in the 21st Century. I hope you enjoy your virtual visit to the Capital City of Wales! |
